Turkish journalists arrested after report on weapons delivery

The editor-in-chief of a Turkish newspaper and its Ankara correspondent were arrested on Thursday after publishing a report about the delivery of weapons from Turkey to extremists in Syria, the DHA news agency reported.

Editor Can Dundar and journalist Erdem Gul of the Cumhuriyet newspaper, which is critical of the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, face charges of belonging to a terrorist group and espionage.

The newspaper published photos this year of a weapons delivery in 2014. The government issued a gag order about the issue and prosecutors are investigating.    (dpa)
